Bond Information

Lansing School District’s new Lewton School is slated to be a 67,350sf foot building to house two sections of student for grades Pre K – 8th grade. The grade levels are distributed across three connected classroom wings, each with their own identifying color with grades Pre K – 2nd housed in the orange classroom wing, 3rd – 5th grade in the light blue wing, and 6th – 8th grade in the purple wing. This approach to smaller learning communities and identifying color is consistent with what is being implemented at the new Willow school as well.

In addition to the general education classrooms, the school houses a Library, 2 middle school science classrooms, a dedicated art classroom, a dedicated music classroom, and two resource rooms. There is a dedicated middle school size gymnasium with cross court practice courts as well. There is also a separate cafeteria and service, designed to fit 1/3 of the school population at a time for mealtime functions. This space can also be transformed for performances and assemblies with a portable stage.

The building also has a roof-top solar array to help generate the electrical power for the building. The interior design reflects the Global Studies curriculum in place, as well as the school’s mascot, the “Lobo’s”. The site includes amenities like two outdoor classroom space, and outdoor dining courtyard, basketball court, new playgrounds, playfield, and walking paths.
