2.01 Interventions to Correct Student Behavior

Students who do not follow school expectations will be subject to a series of interventions intended to correct the behavior. The student’s school is responsible for issuing behavior consequences. The Handbook shall apply to students:

1. On school property or in a school-related vehicle;
2. In attendance at school or at any school-sponsored activity;
3. En route to or from school or any school-sponsored activity;
4. Whose conduct at any place or time directly interferes with the operations, discipline, or general welfare of the school and school students/personnel;
5. When using school-owned telecommunications or computer resources and accounts or other district services.

K-12 Students

In order to maintain a positive school climate for learning, a three-tiered intervention model with four levels of misconduct and disciplinary action has been developed. It is necessary for students and Parent(s)/Guardian(s) to understand that deviations from expected behavior may result in disciplinary action. In each situation, the question of whether or not an act of misconduct occurred that warrants disciplinary action shall be determined administratively, by a school administrator or the Disciplinary Hearing Panel. The school Principal (or designee) is responsible for recommending all disciplinary action, including In-school and Out-of-school/program Suspension, however, all Out-Of-School Suspensions must be approved by the Office of School Culture. The principal shall notify parent(s)/guardian(s) of any suspension before it occurs. Students grades 9-12 who receive Out-Of-School Suspension shall be assigned to the Lansing School District Suspension Center, located at 4501 Pleasant Grove Rd. Lansing, MI 48910.
