1.03 Parent Guidelines for Positive Conduct in Schools

The Lansing School District values and welcomes parent involvement as a vital part of our school community. Whether you're here for a meeting, volunteering, or attending a school event, your presence helps us create a collaborative environment that supports student success. We ask that all visitors model respectful behavior while on campus, as our school is a place of learning, safety, and care. Any form of misconduct—verbal or physical—is not acceptable and will be addressed promptly to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all. If you have any concerns or challenges during your visit, we encourage you to contact the school office or speak directly with the principal. Together, we can maintain a school climate where every student, staff member, and family feel respected and valued.

Here are some simple ways to help foster a positive environment: 

Be a Positive Role Model

• Demonstrate respectful communication with school staff, students, and other parents. 
• Show kindness, patience, and understanding in all school-related interactions. 

Communicate with Respect & Courtesy

• Use polite and constructive language in emails, meetings, and conversations. 
• When concerns arise, begin by arranging a meeting or phone call with the teacher or staff member involved before contacting others. 

Support School Guidelines & Expectations

• Familiarize yourself with district policies, school guidelines, including attendance, dress code, discipline and academic expectations. 
• Reinforce these expectations with your child at home. 

Stay Engaged in Your Child’s Education

• Attend parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and events whenever possible. 
• Encourage your child to complete assignments, follow school rules, and show respect for teachers and classmates. 
• Stay informed about what's happening at your child's school including school news and updates by downloading ParentSquare. 

Approach Conflicts with a Positive Mindset

• Address concerns calmly and work towards solutions through respectful dialogue. 
• Avoid discussing complaints about teachers or staff in front of children to maintain a supportive and respectful learning environment.

Respect School Property & Resources

• Show pride in your school by caring for its facilities, equipment, and resources. 

Promote Inclusion & Kindness

• Encourage a school culture where every student feels safe, valued, and included. 
• Use language and actions that promote kindness and respect for all. 

Use Social Media Thoughtfully and Responsibly

• Share positive school experiences and avoid posting negative or inflammatory comments. 
• Help maintain a supportive school environment by voicing concerns through the proper school communication channels instead of social media. 

Follow Visitor Guidelines

• Parents/guardians, contractors, and district staff are considered visitors and guests. 
• Follow visitor protocols, including signing in and wearing identification if required. 
• Report any safety concerns to school staff promptly. 

Get Involved & Stay Connected

• Support the school by volunteering, joining parent organizations, or attending events. 
• Work together with educators to create a positive experience for all students.
