PreK-8    An Artful Learning School

  • Engaging students with a Bernstein-inspired “Artful Learning” model of arts integration aligned to Michigan grade level standards.
  • Implementing Project Based Learning based on the BIE model.

Dwight Rich School of the Arts offers unique learning experiences for K-6 students utilizing technology and art labs, along with dance and music studio spaces.

Arts integration is a teaching approach where students construct and demonstrate their learning through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form to their subject(s) of study to enhance their understanding. This involves visual, performing, music, media, and communication arts.

  • Technology-based learning and arts programming.
  • Art labs, technology labs, dance, music and performance studio space.
  • Content and teaching resources: Project-based Learning, Aldebran Robotics

The four main quadrants of this model encourage and support best teaching practices while improving the manner in which both students and teachers learn.
They are:

  • EXPERIENCE
  • INQUIRE
  • CREATE
  • REFLECT

facilitate Arts Immersion Weeks – engaging students in arts creation and learning through an Artist-in-Residence program that increases student exposure to the arts, culminating in school-based performances and family programs at the Wharton Center.
