Capital Area K-12 Online

• All K-6 students attend LIVE, core instruction Monday through Friday with Lansing School District teachers. Students attend live instruction daily from 8-11 a.m. and utilize their afternoons to attend scheduled small group sessions, work asynchronously on their assignments, and drop in for office hours as needed. 
• All 7-8 students attend LIVE, core instruction Monday through Friday with Lansing School District teachers. Students attend live instruction daily from 8-11 a.m. and utilize their afternoons to attend scheduled small group sessions, work asynchronously on their elective course and other assignments, and drop in for office hours as needed. 
• 9-12th grade students have a combination of LIVE core instruction with Lansing School District teachers and asynchronous, independent courses (monitored by their teachers), according to their graduation needs. All students are expected to attend their live sessions daily and spend about an hour each day in their asynchronous courses along with daily assignment completion. 
• All online students at Capital Area have the opportunity to participate in Lansing School District extra-curricular and school related activities that take place within the Lansing School District. This includes athletics, CTE opportunities, as well as after-school clubs and programs at particular schools.
• Capital Area K-12 Online is the only online high school where students can maintain their eligibility for the Lansing Promise Scholarship.
• All students are ongoingly provided with at-home learning supplies to support their learning experience. This includes free use of a Chromebook and Wi-Fi! 
• We take pride in offering our students several in-person extras such as intentional activities with mentors, face-to-face field trips, family events, school picture day, Jr. Board participation, art club, as well as robotics and peer-to-peer program coming soon! 
• All of our students have access to FREE weekly curbside meal pick-up at our Hill Center in Lansing.
• Our students have social emotional support from our classroom teachers, mentors, guidance counselor, student support specialist, and graduation specialist.

Q. What platforms will my child be using?

A. Google Classroom/Google Meet - This is where teachers will be. 

Edgenuity - This is where the coursework will be.

Office 365 - Email will be a major method of communication between teachers and students.

Q. How many classes does my child have?

A. Most students in the 7th-12th grade at Capital Area will have 5 courses for a full schedule. Most students will have a combination of synchronous (live, screen-to-screen) and asynchronous (independent) courses.

Q. Where can I find my child’s course schedule?

A. All students can log into StudentVue found on the Lansing School District website to see their full list of courses. Your child will be able to see ALL courses (synchronous and asynchronous) on their Edgenuity dashboards as well. Edgenuity is the platform where your child will complete their coursework.

Q. What time do the courses take place?

A. Start times of LIVE courses can be seen in the titles/headings of each Google Classroom course tile, located on the Google Classroom dashboard. Students will need to attend their live synchronous course and receive directions from their teacher on coursework expectations in Edgenuity. Students can start on their asynchronous immediately! Although asynchronous courses have more flexibility, students are expected to complete at LEAST one assignment daily. Plan to spend about an hour a day on each asynchronous course. The school will call to inform a parent/guardian should we not see assignments completed daily.

Q. Will my child have LIVE support for their asynchronous course(s)?

A. YES!!!

All students taking asynchronous courses MUST attend their STUDY HALL live meet, which they will see on their Google classroom dashboard. This is a live work session where all students can receive support. All students taking asynchronous courses will have access to attend live office hours for one-one-one questions or needs of support. Students will find office hours located on their Google classroom dashboard.

Did you provide us with all of the required documents for your child? Please ensure you’ve submitted the following to our school immediately. You will be contacted if we do not have these documents in our records.

• Updated proof of residence (We will need a copy of a utility bill such as Consumers or BWL. We can also accept the first and last page of your current lease.)
• Updated immunization record (Immunizations can be faxed from a doctor’s office to (517)755-1659.)
• Birth certificate
