Welcome to Lyons Elementary School, located south of Mt. Hope between Cedar Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Our school is a Pre-Kindergarten through third grade building located in a quiet residential area and backs up to a city park. We have a big, beautiful playground with a square blacktop area for games, a jungle gym playground set and lots of grassy area for games or just sitting and talking with friends.
We believe every child can learn if placed in the right environment, and yes, we believe Lyons is exactly the right environment for children to learn both academically and socially! We have high expectations for each and every student enrolled in our school. The instructional staff includes 9 PreK through third grade classroom teachers, a literacy teacher, an instructional assistant, a resource room teacher, a student assistance provider, and a speech therapist.
We also have several extracurricular activities for students including choir for first through third grade students, drama club for second and third graders, and the Feeling Good Mileage Club.

Our school district is preparing to implement a new practice that will require all students in grades 5–12 to securely store their cell phones and other personal digital devices in a secure pouch during the school day. This practice will be implemented consistently across our district to provide a common expectation and experience for all students.
The purpose of this initiative is to reduce distractions during the school day and create learning environments where students can fully engage with their teachers, classmates, and academic work.
This districtwide initiative also aligns with new Michigan legislation regarding personal electronic devices in schools and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing safe, positive, and productive learning environments for every student.
Students will keep possession of their devices throughout the day, but the devices will remain secured in the pouch until the end of the school day or when authorized by school staff.
Additional information about implementation, expectations, and procedures will be shared with families before the new practice begins.
Annual event benefits students and the Lansing community.
