These are just some of the ways that seasonal staff may be utilized.  Note that these lists are not exhaustive and other duties/responsibilities may be added.    

Program Assistance

  • Assist Ebersole naturalist with summer programs and camps
  • Support activity sessions while campers are onsite
  • Prepare activities and supplies for future programs
  • Handle and prepare animals for animal encounters
  • Assist with Ebersole tours when scheduled
  • Assist with special event set-up and clean-up

Land Management

  • Assist in planning, conducting, and monitoring invasive species removal
  • Participate in land management activities, including habitat restoration
  • Participate in scheduled workday activities
  • Perform routine trail inspection and maintenance
  • Maintain gardens around the central campus

Other Duties

  • Clean and fill bird feeders
  • Assist in the feeding and care of Ebersole's ambassador animals
  • Maintain and prepare program spaces around campus
  • Monitor and maintain nesting boxes
  • Photograph programs, habitats, and wildlife
  • Clean, sweep, mop, dust, etc. indoor program spaces

We will schedule seasonal staff for the following dates.  Note that while we have listed times below schedules will vary (between 9:00 AM and 7:30 PM) based on individual duties and program details.  Also notice that on some days we will need as many as four seasonal staff members and on others we will need only one seasonal staff member.  As we get closer to the summer the details of our schedule and actual work shifts will be shared. 

Note:  All dates and times are tentative at this point.  

June Dates: 

  • June 10.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x2 seasonal staff. 
  • June 11.  9:00 AM to 7:30 PM.  We will need x4 seasonal staff for mandatory training.  
  • June 12.  9:00 AM to 7:30 PM.  We will need x3 seasonal staff.     
  • June 13.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x2 seasonal staff. 
  • June 17 and 18.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x4 seasonal staff. 
  • June 19 and 20.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x4 seasonal staff.  
  • June 25, 26, 27, and 28.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x3 seasonal staff.

July Dates:  

  • July 2.  9:00 AM to 7:30 PM.  We will need x3 seasonal staff.
  • July 3.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x2 seasonal staff. 
  • July 8, 9, and 10.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x4 seasonal staff.  
  • July 11.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x1 seasonal staff. 
  • July 30.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x1 seasonal staff. 

August Dates:  

  • August 1.  1:00 PM to 7:30 PM PM.  We will need x1 seasonal staff.  
  • August 12.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x1 seasonal staff.
  • August 15.  9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We will need x1 seasonal staff.  

We are offering all part-time seasonal staff $20.00 per hour.  Each individual will have a separate contracted service agreement set up with the Lansing School District and will be paid every two weeks.  Individuals will be responsible for logging hours on a time sheet.  Those time sheets will then be submitted to the Lansing School District for processing.     

We are accepting applications (see below) through 4:00 PM on April 19, 2024.  Once the application window is closed we will review all fully completed applications and select candidates to invite to the Ebersole Center to interview.  We will be conducting interviews in late April and/or early May (dates TBD).  We intend to make offers during the week of May 6-10.  If you are offered a seasonal position we will arrange for some initial (paid) training in late May or early June (dates TBD).       

Where is the work site?  All seasonal staff will be required to report to the Ebersole Center for work.  The Ebersole Center is located at 3400 2nd St., Wayland, MI 49348.  Click HERE to see our location on a map.

Will I have to undergo a background check?  Yes.  All Ebersole Center team members have to undergo an extensive background check.  If offered a position, candidates will complete the Lansing School District's background check form and our public safety office will complete the background investigation.    

Will I be provided with the necessary training needed for any work responsibilities I am asked to undertake?  Yes.  The year-round Ebersole staff will provide training and ongoing support to seasonal staff for any work responsibilities they are asked to undertake.  

Do I have to be a certain age to apply for a seasonal staff position?  Yes.  All applicants must be at least 18 years old on or before their first paid day of work or training.  

Do you require seasonal staff to have any specialized training?  No.   Specialized training is not required.  However, preference will be given to candidates with training in archery instruction, lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, AED, etc.  Preference will also be given to candidates with experience working with school-age children in camp and/or school settings.
