It is the policy of the Board of Education to maintain an educational environment that is free from all forms of unlawful harassment, including sexual harassment. The District does not tolerate sexual harassment or other forms of unlawful harassment. This commitment applies to all School District operations, academic and extra-curricular programs, and activities. All students, administrators, teachers, staff and all other school personnel share responsibility for avoiding, discouraging, and reporting any form of unlawful harassment. This policy applies to unlawful conduct that occurs during an academic or extra-curricular activity sponsored by the Board on school property, a school bus, or at another location if such conduct occurs during an event or activity sponsored by the Board.

Any individual wishing to report a violation of the harassment policy should contact the Title IX Coordinator (on page 7).

The Lansing School District, where appropriate, will provide additional support to students involved in reports of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault. This support includes (but is not limited to) no-contact orders or changes in student schedules to protect the student. Additionally, the district may  offer counseling support, supplemental academic support, and resources to students who were reported to have experienced sexual harassment, alleged to have engaged in sexual harassment, or witnessed any reported sexual harassment.

Employees who fail to report suspected harassment to their principal, supervisor, or the District’s Compliance Officers will be promptly disciplined. Such discipline may include, if circumstances warrant, suspension or termination of the employee.

Students or employees who retaliate against individuals who report sexual harassment or were reported to have engaged in sexual misconduct will be promptly disciplined. If circumstances warrant, such discipline may include suspension or expulsion of a student, or suspension or termination of an employee.
