Meet the 2024 - 2025 Junior Board

The Junior Board of Education in Lansing is a group of students who help share ideas and concerns with the Board of Education. It has been around for more than 20 years and helps students work together to make schools better. Students in grades 9-12 can join and become leaders by helping plan meetings and activities.
The group meets to talk about what’s going well at their schools, what needs to improve, and what help is needed. They also vote on important ideas and share their thoughts with the Board of Education. This helps everyone work together to make schools better for all students.
Every year, the Junior Board picks a big project to focus on. For example, one year they worked on helping everyone understand the importance of mental health and feeling okay to ask for help. Another year, they worked on building stronger friendships and making everyone feel like they belong.
Students in the Junior Board get to meet people from other schools, learn new skills, and make a difference. They also have chances to earn scholarships and get letters to help with jobs or college. Joining the Junior Board is a great way for students to help their schools and grow as leaders.
